Former Market Vendor Becomes OFW in Israel, Builds Three Houses in PH

A former market vendor has found success after becoming an OFW in Israel, and was able to build as many as three houses in the Philippines. Isn’t that wonderful?

Former Market Vendor, Now a Successful OFW in Israel

While being a market vendor isn’t bad, of course, it’s a job that doesn’t really earn a lot of money unless you own the stall and have fast-selling or high-profit goods to sell.

That’s one of the reasons why Marites Reyes decided to find a job abroad.

She had been selling desserts and snack items at the market before she found a job as a caregiver and household helper in Israel in 2006.

And though there are lots of stories about OFWs encountering difficulties, even bad treatment, from their employees abroad, Reyes was lucky to have been assigned to kindhearted and generous ones.

She shared that even back when she was taking care of an elderly employee, she didn’t have any problems because they were kind to her.

She also added that it’s great to be an OFW in Israel because they have rights and they rarely have any issues with bad treatment.

During the pandemic, everyone she knows working in Israel didn’t lose their jobs, whether caregivers, household helpers, or other workers.

Thanks to her generous employers in Israel and the stable job she has as caregiver, she was able to build not just one but three houses in the Philippines, including homes for her parents and siblings.

According to KAMI, she also has a 9-year-old daughter who’s with her in Israel. The young girl is studying there.

Like many OFWs, Reyes is also helping her siblings and their children – and she seems really happy and proud that she’s able to do it for her extended family.

Earnings of Caregivers in Israel

Caregivers can earn around Php70,000 per month in Israel – several times what a household worker can earn in other places, such as the Middle East or Hong Kong.

They also get paid overtime work, annual vacation with pay, insurance coverage, and weekly days off.
