Time News International shared the video on their Facebook page – and many could not help but express their anger over what they perceived was an injustice on the domestic helper.

While it is true that the domestic helper is living under their roof, they still do not have the right to go through her belongings as if she had taken something from them.

It was clear in the video that this was not just a cursory check of what might be inside the OFW’s room because the things were checked one by one, with pockets and zippers even checked to see if there was something hidden inside!

The clip was nearly 30 minutes long, yet throughout the entire video the employers were seen going through the things of the domestic helper who was not named in the post. What’s sad is that the employers, especially the male one, seemed to be doing a very thorough check on the things – even stuff that are too personal, such as her under garments.

Many netizens could not help but sympathize with the OFW, especially because this was her last day on the job and she must have felt truly humiliated by the experience. Still, many are happy that it was her last day and, at least, she has the choice not to go back to these distrustful people.

Some netizens also commented that if these people don’t trust that their domestic helpers will be honest with them, then it would be best that they don’t hire someone at all – rather than humiliate them in this manner.

While it is possible that they might have reason to believe the employer had taken something from them, many still believe that this is not the right way to handle such a situation.

Hong Kong Employers searching maid belonging before she flew back to her country. Is it Employer's right to check maid's bag ? These kind of employers discredit others out of jealousy, always wanting to be one up & to show the world that they’re the good ones. It won’t last. The truth will out. It will lead to their own downfall eventually!
