Single Mom OFW Builds 4-Story House, Sends Four Kids to School

A single mom OFW (overseas Filipino worker) recently went viral after sharing that she was able to build a 4-story house for her family while also sending her four kids to school. She thanks her employers for treating her like family, enabling her to do this for her own family.

Single Mom OFW Goes Viral for 4-Story House

It’s a common joke among OFWs that they aren’t able to save anything except the receipts of their remittances to their families in the Philippines.

That’s a reality for many OFWs, especially those who are working in lower-paying jobs such as household workers. However, there are also OFWs who are able to build a house for their families, open various businesses, and send their kids to college.

Josephine Ramos is one of these lucky OFWs who found good employers who treated them like family and enabled them to better support their own children.

She has been working as a cook and housemaid for an Indian family in Dubai, UAE (United Arab Emirates) for 6 years.

In all those years, she said that she was treated kindly and considered a sister by her employers.

Ang sarap ng feeling na kapatid yung turing ng amo ko sa akin,” she told KAMI.

Thanks to her kind employers, she was able to build a 4-story house for her family despite being a single mom. She was also able to send her four kids to school – and two of them have already graduated and now have jobs.

Because the house is too large for her family, she also rents out some of the sections for extra income.

Tiyaga, tiis, at pasensiya sa lahat. Kasi hindi mo bahay ang bahay ng amo mo at lahat sundin mo lng ang utos ng amo. Always be happy lang,” she advises other OFWs.

Can OFWs Buy a House Even If They’re Abroad?

Yes, it’s possible. While a physical transaction is ideal and the safest, it’s also possible for an OFW who is abroad to buy property in the Philippines.

You’ll need to sign a document called SPA (Special Power of Attorney) to authorize someone to purchase the property on your behalf, but still under your name.

Other OFWs also opt to let their parents, spouses, or kids of legal age buy the property for them.

Just make sure you pick a trusted person for these monetary deals or you can end up losing your money.
